Why come

A week with the rest of the team in one place and one time zone is a rare chance to finish the maintenance, infrastructure, and large changes that stall in async review. A quick “come look at this” saves days of back and forth. This year’s focus: the Python API transition and finishing the CMake build system transition. Around that core, there’s plenty of room to improve processing tools, documentation, and the interfaces to QGIS, GDAL, PostGIS, R, OGC services, and others. That rewrite you’ve been meaning to get to but wanted community input for? This is the time!

The meeting is open to all users, supporters, contributors, power users, and developers who want to make a meaningful contribution to the project. The 2025 event report gives a sense of what a week like this can achieve.

Why San Michele

The meeting is hosted at Fondazione Edmund Mach (FEM), a research and education center about 15 km north of Trento. On-site facilities let participants work, sleep, and eat in the same location, keeping the community together for the full week. Trento is also the host city of FOSS4G Italy 2026 (July 9–11), making it easy to combine both events. Also, the place is absolutely gorgeous, with vineyards and the foothills of Dolomites just beyond the campus.

Support the event

Funding directly shapes how many people can take part. Recent meetings drew 16–17 in-person participants in 2023 and 2024, and 34 in 2025 thanks to additional funding that covered travel for students and contributors from far away. Your support grows the room. The fastest way to help is a direct donation through NumFOCUS; for more options, such as invoicing or corporate sponsorship, see the Sponsoring page.

We look forward to seeing you in San Michele all’Adige!
